This December, we will be organizing a public health trip. We hope to develop a long-term relationship with a local area in a Southeast Asian country (current possibilities are Myanmar or Bangladesh). We will first conduct health assessment surveys in the area to determine their most pressing needs, followed by designing tailor-made health inter- vention strategies that target specific problems. Health intervention methods may include health education, latrine/drainage system modifications, cooking stove/indoor fuel usage improvements, and waste disposal planning. The trip content (ie intervention methods) will be jointly designed by all chosen participants so that students will benefit from the planning process and familiarize themselves with the local situations. This will maximize the impact on both the locals and the participating students.
